As far back as 1927 my family has documented their lives, My great uncle Sal opened up his first mask photography studio in 1928 and was a known Published Photographer for his entire life tell his death in 1995, his little brother my grandfather the Famous Captain Tony from Key West started photographing when he arrived to Key West in 1948 his images are from his 65 foot commercial party boats and the oldest bar in Key West Captain Tony’s Saloon the original Hemingway bar his collection is incredible and then you have me I arrived in Key West 1976 and became a published Photographer in 1978 for Kennedy Studios and the Key West Citizen after covering Key West for seven years I took off to New York City and spent over 30 years Photographing that crazy city on this site you will see over 1000 images with some very interesting stories attached to each one of them it’s actually the birth of our book It is still a art project in the works Every image was either taken by Sal my grandfat
As far back as the late 20s my great uncle Sal was making these bizarre masks he actually made masks his entire life until his death in 1995 he sold a lot to traveling carnivals Broadway plays there are some special ones that he used in his mind reading act and hypnotizing people and they were always used in backgrounds In his photography Studios some of the giant ones are 2 1/2 feet tall and have some special ingredients in the papier-mâché mix Haitian voodoo dust, pyramid scrapings from Egypt, secret potions from around the world there’s also a bunch of other stuff I won’t talk about right now, in 2002 I inherited 110 of them i used a lot of them in my photography Studios they do have special powers, beside New York, New Jersey and Key West Florida there’s a bunch them Sal, if you walk in to Captain Tony’s Saloon in Key West you’ll see one hanging in the pool room there was originally 15 of them made above the bar in Sal‘s mask photography studio Right now Lisa and I
